Join us June 9-14, 2024 for the 21st annual Grand Illinois Bike Tour (GIBT)!
This year's Central Illinois route resembles a figure eight beginning and ending in Maroa, with overnights in Springfield, Forsyth, and Champaign. Registration is open.
Our 2024 loop through Central Illinois will first make its way to Springfield, the state capitol and home of many Abraham Lincoln historical sites. Day two's layover day provides an opportunity to tour those sites and the extensive Springfield area paved trail system. We then continue our figure eight formation for a night in Forsyth. From there it is off to the home of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, with two nights in Champaign and layover day routes in the area. This year's ride concludes on rural roads to Maroa. New for 2024: Three-day GIBT options: a limited number of slots are available for three-day tours. With our figure eight ride pattern, riders who cannot commit to the full six-day tour now have two different options. There will be an option to ride Sunday-Tues or Wed -Friday. The first of these options will begin with a ride from Maroa to Springfield on Sunday. Riders will have a layover day in Springfield with different ride options and return to Maroa on Tuesday. Riders joining the second option also begin in Maroa on Wednesday with a ride to Champaign. A layover day in Champaign offers different ride options. This option concludes on Friday with riders leaving Champaign and returning to Maroa.
Register for 2024 GIBT
Choose among our daily mileage options for a total between 203 to 400 miles, consisting mainly of quiet rural roads as well as some trails around Springfield and Champaign/Urbana. Enjoy evenings filled with good food and socializing with riders from around the country. Proceeds benefit GIBT's host Ride Illinois, a nonprofit bicycle advocacy organization, and support our mission to make Illinois better through biking.
