Dunes preservation history and birding tour featuring National Lakeshore’s Read House and PCC's Carol Cook Wetland Overlook.

Travel 16.8 miles round trip. We start to gather in the Discovery Charter School parking lot at 9am. Set off at 10am sharp for the historic Read House on Tremont in Porter. There will be a small talk on the history of the house and what it meant to the preservation of the Dunes, now National Park. We'll meet Herb Read and honor the memory of his wife Charlotte Read.

Cyclists then proceed through duneland prairie and woodland to their destination at PCC's Carol Cook Wetland Overlook. Riders may view birds from the boardwalk birding platform, meet a bird rescued by Humane Indiana Wildlife and have lunch with Discovery Trackers 4-H Club before returning by bike to their vehicles at Discovery.
